A precious day

Our morning routine has completely changed because K doesn't want to walk very much in the morning. We've had extra time to watch the Flycatcher couple who have a nest full of babies under our deck.

The parents work so hard, catching flies and delivering them to the nestlings, all day long.
I occasionally saw the couple together this morning. I know from the past dozen years of watching flycatcher parents that the nestlings usually fledge soon after I start seeing the parents away from the nest together.
After a slow-moving morning on the deck watching the Flycatchers, one of K's favorite people, smrp, came to visit her in the afternoon. K had been subdued all day until the three of us sat in the pine needles and played. K lit up, her eyes sparkled, and she seemed truly happy. I didn't take any photos because the time was too precious. But, here's K's serene face after our little get-together.
K's energy was buoyed for the rest of the day, and our little family had a peaceful sunset walk in the meadow near our house. K's spirit amazes me - she loves life with all her heart.
During that sunset hike, I managed to negotiate with R's agent to let me take a photo of him in the sunset light. He's a handsome dude, in my humble opinion.
As the sun dropped lower in the sky, the world and K were embued with a deep red. It felt as if K was being swaddled in the soft warm rays of the sun.
It was another precious day in our journey. As a person who always like to try to take control of life events, it's so hard for me to stand by and let nature take its course. Alas, aside from pain management, that's all that I can do. But, I'll stand by K until the end of the journey, watching over her and showering her with love.

  3. K is always beautiful, but that last photo is just stunning! The lighting is so lush on her. I'm glad she had visitor today to cheer her up!

And Kuster also wanted me to mention that R is a very handsome dude -- almost as handsome as he is! He said it must be the shiny black fur! *sigh* The boy is adorable, but he is not humble.

  7. How nice to be able to sit and watch the family of Flycatchers with your girl. K really does has a special spirit about her. It must be so hard as that is the one thing that hurts so much when loved ones are ill is the feeling of loss of control over the situation or the outcome. K has such a deep zest for life and so much dignity that I am always in awe of her. She too, is so lucky to have such a special person in you to see her through this. :)

  8. Couldn't ask for better tenants than flycatchers in summer - unless it were bats to eat the mosquitos. So glad smrp was able to vist and cheer K; we thought they were on the road already.

    Gentle hugs,

The glow on K from the sun- looks like Mother Earth has wrapped her arms around K.

  22. Oh KB,
Like your other readers, my heart continues to go out to you as you ride the path of this difficult journey. I so understand the emotion you felt with "K wrapped in the sunlight"... the beauty that prevails at a time like this is beyond understanding.
Yes, I also agree with you that R is one handsome dude. He will have lessons to teach you too - like Tam did with Max. He, too, can be a guide.
Sending you lots of ((Hugs)) and warm wishes, special friend.

  29. I'm sorry K is starting to slow. She is still living life to the fullest and happy though. I know it's hard, but it's wonderful that you and K are able to go through the journey together and that you are always there for her. I'm sure it helps her stay in peace. I hope I can do the same for mine when the time comes.
