Shyla waved good morning to everyone at sunrise today. These are three rapidfire photos of her wave!
After her "good morning" wave, we headed up high to survey the mountains. Winter has arrived there!
With winter taking hold, it's not surprising that I am not getting many photos or videos of our bears these days. However, the other day, I rode to a trail camera that is waaaay out in the hinterlands, and I discovered some new bear video! In late September, Cinnamom and her cubs passed a spring where they used to wallow in the hot weather.
For contrast, I first included a clip from mid-August, when the cubs looked little. Then, I added the clip from a month later. The first bear to appear in that clip looked like an adult to me, until Cinnamom appeared in the video. The cubs have grown immensely but they're still small compared to their mother!
Also, notice the weary gait of Cinnamom as she leaves the spring. I think she's getting sleepy!
You can watch the video here or at Youtube.
The cubs will den with Cinnamom this winter, nursing throughout the winter. They'll emerge from the den as a family, staying together until the start of bear mating season in May-June. I hope we see them all together again before family breakup!

What a wonderful wave you have Shyla! So you have to go to each trail camera to check them?
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Murphy,
ReplyDeleteI do have to go to each trail camera to check it. There are some new trail cameras out that email photos to the owner using cell phone signals. However, we don't have good cell phone reception here so that won't work for me! So, I pedal long distances to go visit my cameras!

Big wave back to you Shyla! You're so lucky to have wildlife like the bears to watch. Thanks for sharing! (Where we live now the biggest wild animal is a coyote. No deer, no bears)
ReplyDeleteAwesome footage. How fun to see them like that. I hope they all live a long and happy life.
ReplyDeleteLoved the video!

I love seeing the bears. They amaze me. I noticed Cinnamon has one tag in each ear, is that the way it is always done? Shyla looks so sweet giving you that wave!
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures. The video is great. Really big they are now. Do they get tagged like their mother? She had tags in her ears.
ReplyDeletesuch wonderful autumn colors.
ReplyDeleteloved your bear capture!!
Hi Lindsjo,
ReplyDeleteThe cubs won't get tagged unless they do something bad like trying to break into a human home for food. Their mother must have done something bad in the past to have been tagged. Her ear tags mean that, if she is caught doing something bad again, she'll be killed by the authorities.
I'm a bit surprised that she ever got into trouble because my trail cameras show her living a very natural and reclusive life. I have not been aware of her going near houses.
Thanks for the comment!
