I never had seen this fascinating and cute behavior before my trail cam captured it. Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Pretty neat to see ! The chicks are almost too big to shelter under Mom any more.

  2. When I was a child, I remember my bantam hen covering her chicks when a hawk was hovering overhead. She squawked so loudly.

  3. A big family to look after, is that the usual number in a brood? a clutch? a hatch?

  4. Wow! KB, your cameras just 'happen' to be in the right spot at the right time. You have a nose for wildlife hotspots. This was so fun to watch. What intricate, spectacular plumage those hens have.

Have you read "Illumination in the Flatwoods: A Season With The Wild Turkey", by Joe Hutto? I highly recommend it.

  8. How nice of the mama to sit down right in front of your camera. It was wonderful to get the close up of how she was trying to keep her chicks dry.

  9. Selfless motherhood on display. How wonderful your cams were in the right place to capture these moments.
