A Lion Walked Nearby

Shyla and I were out early, as usual. I love the quiet of the forest in the morning. Shyla looked like she was tip toeing through the forest!
Shyla played in the snow, carefree and happy.
Then we hiked to check a trail camera. It turned out that we'd been sharing the forest with a mountain lion on one of our morning outings recently. He left a scrape in the snow. In this photo, he's in the process of systematically kicking backward with each hind paw.
I know that many people in my area are not happy about mountain lions right now but I was thrilled to see the series of photos of this healthy lion. This lion was in the part of the forest where lions normally travel, and he passed through our area without anyone knowing it (except my trail camera). He was living a normal and secretive mountain lion life. I loved seeing his images!

After our hike to the trail camera, we headed home. I have the flu, including a jackhammer headache that hasn't wavered all day since I woke up. I think it's time for bed now...
We've had lots of pairs of dogs in our life, and this pair is the most affectionate with each other of any, matched only by the pair of littermates who were our first dogs. I love seeing how Shyla and R snuggle up together.

  1. precious babies!

    sorry about the flu!

  2. I love that they are so snuggly with each other. I've never really had a pair of dogs do that. Sorry to hear you caught the crud going around. Hope you feel better soon!

  3. Wonderful! I hope your flu is over soon.

  4. Lions and snug-pups...two of my favorite photo-topics :)
I hope you feel better soon! Everywhere I go people are talking about getting run over by some horrid bug...take it easy if you can.

  5. OH, those two just melt my heart - what sweeties to snuggle like that!

Hope the flu moves on by quickly - and your head feels much better too.

  6. Superb trail cam photo, what time are you near there? The two together in perfect harmony. Rest up, and get well real soon, Hugs from Jean

  7. How many trail cameras do you have? Mom says I am a cuddle bug too.

    You Pals,

    Murphy and Stanley

  8. That is so awesome they snuggle like that. And the cat, very cool!

  9. Yes- Shyla does look like she is tip toeing and then it looks like she is thundering!
Such a sweet photo of Shyla and R!
We hope your sickys and head ache go away soon.
The mountain lion does look very healthy.

  10. Oh so sorry you have flu. That just makes everything so much worse.

Love the snuggling duo. Reminds me of a couple of Goldens, but without pain. Only smiles. Take care of yourself.

  11. They're so sweet! Hope you feel better soon.

  12. That is sweet how they are snuggling. The lion is beautiful. I do hope you feel better soon.

  13. Boy, what a gold mine you got on that trail camera this time! That's such a great photo of the mountain lion! And what a precious photo of the labraduo. I hope you get plenty of rest and get feeling better again soon.

  14. Oh, such FABulous pics!!! I just love the action shots of Shyla!
She is always havin' such a great time.
That is one gorgeous Mountain Lion!
Shyla and R are just adorables!
    Ruby ♥

  15. Flu as well?

We think it's wonderful that the lions can have a secret life. So many people want to move into their territory and then complain about them.

    XXXOOO Bella & Roxy

  16. Sorry to hear so much animosity about the mountain lions. I glad you know their secrets. :)

Shyla and R are so adorable all snuggled up to each other. Even all our litter mates don't do that!

Poor girl! Hope you feel better soon!

  17. We love the pictures of you and R snuggled up together, Shyla!
Just what you needed, KB - the flu. Feel better soon!

    Love ya lots♥
    Mitch and Molly

  18. I love seeing Shyla and R together, too! I hope you're feeling better soon. I've been miserable all week, so you have my sympathies.

  19. I love seeing these 2 snuggle up together. I have to remind myself that our dogs are only here for part of our lives - but we are their whole life. Feel better soon and get some rest.

  23. Several thoughts from this post.....So not fair you got the flu! Recovering from surgery is enough!.....It annoys me when people live in an area with a certain species of animal, and want it removed, or trapped, or whatever. The animal was there first! Even in my suburban area, people get all upset when they see a fox. Oh, we have got to call pest control and have killed....WHY???? Grrrr!!!!...and finally, that snuggle picture makes R look like a dark chocolate Lab....I've always thought he was black!

  24. We sure hope you get to be flu-free soon!

  25. Your trail camera posts are favorites of mine. I have never seen 2 dogs cuddle the same as R and Shyla. They are quite the special pair. I'm so sorry you have/had the flu. I had it last winter and it was horrible. I missed 2 weeks of work and probably should have been in the hospital. I sure hope you don't get it like that.
