Desert Beauty: Autumn Leaves, Rock Sculptures, and the Milky Way

We are joining the LLB Gang for Nature Friday. We thank them for hosting the blog hop.

After R's surgery a few weeks ago, we headed into the desert for some relaxation time. It was a good time for us to be off by ourselves while R was healing. Plus, we caught a glimpse of the desert autumn. Cottonwood trees flourish in wet areas like washes, and they were golden when we were there.

I love the intricate rock formations sculpted by wind and water.

I love watching our Duo romp in an alien environment.

One spot where we love to camp is in the middle of a wide valley with rock cliffs surrounding it. It gives me an expansive view of the sky.

And, when there's no moon like on this visit, we can see the Milky Way in all of its glory.

I left my camera out to capture the Milky Way as it rotated through the sky. I put together 6 hours of still photos to make a 40 second time lapse video of it. I hope that you enjoy it.

  2. that milky way is stunning. so glad you could get away and enjoy your time with R healing and the duo romping. nature has its own healing powers.... as does that night sky. thanks for always sharing about what you do with Shyla, due to your play time video that showed you training her to play, we did not give up on our non playing Big boy.... I kept trying and yesterday we had a break through, last night at 5 and this am at 6:30 he acutall played with his ball outside. we have seen him play in the house but not outside. I just kept bouncing the tennis ball, dribbling it with my hand, he could not stand it and leaped up to get it away from me. I had two balls and dribbled one while he had the other. each time he put his down and grabbed mine. this morning same thing and he started to throw his ball in the air and chase it like he does in the house. I think it helped that our temps are cooler and not so humid. thanks for all the info you share with us

Lawdy, lawdy gal... dizzyingly beautiful. I spy Orion; I see him every night (when there's not cloud - okay, so maybe once a week...) from the Hutch's window. I love that the constellations are close to us all! YAM xx

  11. I love cottonwoods in the fall, and we have lots of them around. Beautiful leaves. I'll have to wait another year to see them like that again!

R looks fabulous. I am not at all surprised by how well he's recovered. That eye looked AWFUL. It was a difficult but correct decision on your part, if you care about the opinion of a random internet stranger. A happy R is a treasure indeed!

  13. How nice to be in your own spot with nothing around, kind of like a desert island without the island part.
