Bobcat pounce

I've had an iPhoto library meltdown which I'm attempting to fix so this post will be short.

The wildlife activity was most intense in our backyard last night. A bobcat was photographed by my wildlife camera just as he prepared to pounce on something that I couldn't see.
When I rode with K yesterday, I spotted the most precious and rare of wildflowers that grace our forest - a Fairy Slipper. It grows in pine forests, away from the bright alpine sunlight.
We also spotted Blue Flag Irises. Each petal glowed like a work of art.
K was hot during our ride. It's time for me to shift our rides to the very early morning so that she's not out in the glaring sun. In the winter, we get out bright and early to see the sunrise. In the summer, our motivation is different because sunrise is too early for me.
Hopefully, my library of photos will be intact by tomorrow. Our world is changing so fast that I want to be able to upload my photos of it every day!

  1. Thought of you on my evening stroll with Mango. I heard a coyote howling in the woods. Not a common sound in these parts. At first I thought, "no worries, I have Mango with me." Then I thought, "uh oh, I have an intact male and that could be a bitch in heat howling." Either way, Mango didn't seem to notice. Phew.

  3. Our Minniesnowda State Flower is the equisite Lady Slipper, much like what I could see of the Fairy Slipper. Very Orchid like, and your photo'd flowers are wonderful. So exotic!

I was trying to load a picture onto a new blog and got a note they were working on this and would have it repaired sometime later than now (I think they said soon, later than now are my words). So maybe that is part of your problem?

    Cheers,
    Jo and Stella

  4. I've always loved Lady Slippers! Thank you for sharing yours with us.

K has our sympathies on the heat! I think we're having above ninety degree days every day this week. Bunny's advice is to stay in the air conditioning or find a nice stream to ride by so frequent dips can be made!

Have you thought about loading some of your favorite photos on Flickr? It's an extra step to share them on your blog, but it can be done, and it's given me a new way to appreciate photography and learn more about it. Just a thought!

  6. Brutally warm here even now at almost 9:00 p.m. Hope you can fix the iPhoto - makes me a bit nervous about that - I wouldn't have a clue what to do if that happened to me.

The fairy slipper is really beautiful.

  12. You found Fairy Slipper! There is still snow on my back trail, so I know mine aren't blooming yet. Get down and smell the next time you see one - I've heard they have a wonderful sweet fragrance. PS Lucinda is shuddering to think about what that bobcat may have been hunting.

  15. Strange how plants distribute themselves. No Fairy Slippers here in France but ' the font ' grew up surrounded by them in Sweden . Sweden and Colorado - can you figure it out ?
