A bright spot

R's expression in this photo sums up how we all feel in this first week of living without K.
We are all trying to rally. As part of my grief process, I am working on a montage of my favorite photos of K. This is one of my favorites, taken fairly recently. I'm pretty sure that I'll never know another dog who will look at me with such love.
But, I'm finding solace with R. The Runner and he have been joining me on some mountain bike rides. Togetherness is helping us all get through this time.
R is so full of life and vigor.
We love him, and he is one of the sweetest souls in the world. He's a bright spot in our life.

  2. We have been gone and missed many of your posts! So VERY sorry about K but you have so many memories that will always be with you of your time together. It is so hard when one of our family leaves us. We have found they are with us always if only in our memories of good times and pictures we have taken. Thank you so much for taking us along with you and K on your tough journey! We feel as if we were there and part of your life during this hard time. It is so sad when we have to say goodbye. We had to say goodbye to 2 Sibes and our Greyhound all within 6 months. Terrible BUT they are still with us in our memories and hearts. So it will be with K. You and K were/are such an inspiration for all of us. Thank you for sharing! You will continue in our hearts and thoughts. When we came back I was thinking of you and K and realized it was during the time you were saying goodbye until you meet later. Love you all and take care!!!
So glad you have R and the runner to share and be with at this time!

  4. Ahhh, R - you are such a sweet boy - you learned well from K. We always found pouring through the photos brought so much joy to the heart despite the tears. The mutual love between you and K was so precious and so unique. Wait, not "was" - IS and always will be.

I am sure that K approves of your new riding companions

  6. I said during 'r'ecent months that K would teach R so many lessons prior to her leaving us -

Maybe she felt her pupil was ready to graduate -

    Thanks for the awesome pics!

  15. So very sorry for your loss. I know K was and will continue to be your heart. It looks as though R is more than willing to fill in a little. Not take the place of K, but be there to help you heal. They take our hearts don't they?

  19. I've thought often of you over this past week because for me, it brings back feelings of my own recent loss of our boy Sam. I know the feeling of comfort you are feeling from 'R' and what a difference it makes at times like this. I can promise you that in time, if you choose, even though the eyes will be different there can be another who will look at you with the same intensity and love and devotion.

  22. There is nothing like the boundless love of a dog, be it just in memory, as K's must now be, or in the moment and full of life and vigor, as R's is now. We know you will get through this, impossible as it may be to conceive at this stage.

  29. Lovely pics of R and you, and K as well, with the magic eyes. Dogs grieve the loss of pals just as much as we do. While we are trying to manage the loss of one pet, we are trying to help another pet cope with their loss. You are doing well, KB, and we wish you the very best.

  36. Although I know this has been an incredible loss for you, it's so good to see you relishing your moments with R. I have seen a rainbow two days in a row now, and I always think it's K smiling down on you.

  37. Been sad for you as it all seemed so sudden at the end - I thought there would be more "down" time, but so pleased for you she was really pretty active until the end.
I adore black labs - seeing you with such a beautiful boy warms my heart as we all cope with the loss of beautiful K
