Living in the Moment

Tension levels are rising up here in the mountains, with everyone feeling disbelief as rumors circulate that our normal routes to town might not open before winter. Presently, people are driving about 4 times as far as normal to go around the flood damage and down to jobs and appointments in town.

Yet, no matter what happens in the human-created world, time marches on, and the season is changing. Just in the past day, the aspen leaves have morphed to brilliant gems up here in the mountains.
Each leaf is like a unique work of art.
I feel fortunate to get to witness this autumnal transformation once again. I was forever changed by losing my mother to cancer when she was young. It makes me ask, each year, how many more times will I get to see the glory of a changing season? I don't know. No one knows - but I think that losing a parent young makes a person more aware of the uncertainty.
One of the things that I love most about dogs is that they don't dwell on worries like how fast time is going by. They simply greet each day with wide open eyes, embracing it with enthusiasm and joy.
They gallop through tunnels of changing leaves without worrying about how many autumns they will see.
Quite simply, they live in the moment, making as much fun as they can.
Happy Autumn to my Northern Hemisphere friends and Happy Spring to my Southern Hemisphere friends! I hope that we can find ways to enjoy the beauty around us despite the incredible difficulties, of all sorts (not just floods but other hardships), that life can throw at us.

  1. The moment, captured so well with the water spray in droplets. Yes, our doggie and cat families, when given love and care, need not fret about life's troubles. I looked at some aerial shots of CO, and had tears, so devastating, so widespread, almost unbelievable. I do hope roads will open before your winter season, and say Many Thanks, for our Spring Season welcoming words. Greetings from Jean.

  2. This world would be a better place if humans were more like us doggies. Hopefully things will open up for you long before winter.

  3. I am working on living in the moment more! It can be so hard with all the "bad" news that surrounds us.

I hope that things improve for your community.

  6. I believe this is the greatest lesson my pups have taught me, the power of living in the moment. I have much more to learn and much to practice, but seeing their living example has been an inspiration to me.

  8. Hi KB, That is the truth that people who lose their mothers believe they will not outlive their years. My mother died when she was 29, and I was only 18 months old. I heard so much about her over the years and began to believe that I would not live past that age. I am 74 years old today. So much for old wive's tales!

Winter in CO has been very much on my mind. I hope other states and counties will send road builders to help CO manage to get things back to normal.

    Cheers and hugs,

    Jo

  9. Hubby and I have been through many hardships over the years. It always seems like we are never going to get through it, sometimes all we have is the animals to live through. And they are such a blessing all in their own right. We always seem to come through and the dogs, cats and duck are always right by our side as we cross over.

I know how you feel. I literally don't know what I would do without them.

  13. The human brain is a wonderful thing but at the same time it is a curse!

I understand what you say about losing a parent early/young. My mother died when I was just turned 12 and she, poor woman, was not quite 54. I have now just turned 54 myself and I have always wondered if I would make it to this age to live longer than she did. And now I'll wonder how far past 54 I'll go.....

  14. I really hope that they can get at least a few roads open for you! I can understand the frustration. I agree, you live in a really beautiful place and I'm looking forward to seeing the weather change to something beautiful for Fall, although I wish Summer would stay around forever!

  15. HAPPY AUTUMN !!

Mother Nature has put some major obstacles in front of you this year while at the same time providing you beauty!!

Shyla and R just gleefully bound forward into the waters, flip a tail making a droplet trail(LOVE) and onto the next enjoyment.

Taking one day at a time has been reinforced in my world since I was a child losing my father to a solo airplane crash. Empathy is on alert as I read your words.

    Take care

Hugs and licks to the pups!!

  17. We can all learn from our dogs, we just need to take a minute and see what is truly important.

  18. Gorgeous photos! If only we humans could live in the moment like our dogs do. No one knows how much time they have on this earth. All we can do is try to live each day to the fullest--something I know you already do in spite of the pain you live with.

Hope your roads will be passable before winter! That longer route must be a huge hardship, especially for those who have to commute each day.

  20. Hi Ken K.! Thanks for reading. To answer your question, I use a Canon 5D Mark ii for most of my photos. However, I tend to think that the lens is most important for sharpness. I have a couple of "go-to" lenses that I use for the majority of my photos. You are free to email me at kynabear5 at gmail dot com if you'd like more details. I love talking photography so please do!

  22. Dear KB, You have been in my thoughts so much this last ten days while I was away. Funny how virtual friendships become so important to us. Glad to hear you are safe. As we drove home through Utah and Wyoming yesterday, we noticed the changing colors; here in the flatlands though it hasn't happened yet. I've heard more horror stories about Estes and the issues there. I pray you won't have them. I lost my mom when I was 21 and it wasn't that young but I cherish each day I live.
    Hugs, Noreen
