Nature and Feline Friday - Kitty love is in the air!

Close to human trails, there is a line of mountain lion scrapes that host myriad animals all year around. The scrapes are just barely hidden from view, and lots of animals, including cats, venture there even during the day.

This video covers the very snowy last two months. I'm sure that the deep snow is a lot of trouble for travel by wildlife but we will all benefit from it in the long run. You'll see the vast changes in snowpack throughout the two months. We've had lots of days like this one.

We have a pair of adult mountain lions together. If the successfully mated, the female will have kittens in May, which seems like a wonderful time of year to raise them. Mountain lions can have kittens at any time of year but there is a pulse of kittens born in springtime.

Later in April, a female lion visits a scrape and caterwauls, which means that she is looking for a mate. Love is in the air!

Check out the short video!

  1. I had to go back and re-watch to check the date and time between the rabbit and the bobcat. I thought perhaps the latter was hunting the former, but no there was a day between them.

    Great footage as always!

  2. i am wondering if you will hear the lions at night in your new home. the skunk is so cute. lots of footprints in that snow. so happy you got a lot of it this year, hope it was enough

  3. Now these are felines for sure. Love the big cats. I'm so happy you share them with us.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Scritches to the pups. ♥

  4. OH MY CATS!!! and Hares and Sydney Skunk is waddling
    Hugs to 4 Cecilia

  5. We always love seeing those big cats too and all that snow, WOW!

  6. We know there is a mountain lion who wanders up and down the river. We have not seen her for a few weeks as it is high water, so we assume she/he is bypassing the village on the mountain side. They are magnificent creatures! Funny, when the cats heard the mountain lion on the video, they headed under the bed, just like they do when it is outside!

  7. You share with us the best videos! Thanks and I agree about the snow- we need lots of snow to prepare for the summer! Take care and have a great weekend!

  8. Such beautiful snow covering everything in the first shot!

...and I always enjoy viewing the wildlife through your trail cams!!!

  9. Oh I do hope the female mountain lion finds a mate. Do they form monogamous pairs?

  10. Mountain lion kittens just days old must be so adorable. I hope she finds her mate!

  11. That sure is a lot of snow. We hope you find lion kittens this spring.

  12. Big cats and smaller ones, love that bobcat showing his ears pricked up for any strange noise, then moving off, bunny jumps and the tails held high, this is a delight all through.
