Hachi did well with his training this week.
We had a session with our trainer. Despite spending the earlier part of the day being somewhat stressed by having a worker in the house (yes, the house remodel is still going on), Hachi was less reactive with the trainer than in previous sessions. The main goal of these sessions is to help Hachi learn to be relaxed around her. We discovered that he is much more relaxed when her back is to him than any other time. When she had her back to him, he could approach within 6' or so while remaining relaxed. That's a big victory.
He also made a "happy visit" to the vet hospital. He did superbly outside the vet hospital, watching other dogs going in and out of the doors without stressing out too much. The staff opened an outside door to an exam room. The Runner and Hachi easily entered and hung out in the room for 5 minutes or so. Hachi got tons and tons of yummy treats in there. That was a great session!
We love our Hachi!
the happy visit is a wonderful milestone for you all... we still wait for that day ;O)

Hang in there, Hachi - you will get there one day soon!
ReplyDeleteThe lighting in the photo is simply gorgeous - as is Hachi.
ReplyDeleteGlad things went well with the trainer and the vet office. He definitely has come a long way.
Good job, Hachi. You are working so hard on learning to be comfortable in so many different situations. We're glad to hear you had such a good week of training.
ReplyDeleteLittle adjustments seem to make a huge difference, and Hachi, you did so well at the V et Clinic, let all that progress continue. House renovations, we know the havoc this entails, Hugh has declared NEVER again, even though it all went well at the time. However the end result is still stunning, two new bathrooms, a storage room, then later new lino in the kitchen and dining, with all building supplies now in such short supply, we were so lucky to be doing it when we did.You will look back and wonder how you managed, then realise the end result is SO worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteBless you for taking such care with him. You rock.
ReplyDeleteHe's so handsome and this is a portrait photograph.
Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups. ♥
That sweet guy sure is trying and succeeding!
ReplyDeletewe are very impressed, especially at the vet hospital. We don't like vets either.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Hachi!!! And well done, Hachi's people!!!
