Colorado Rocky Mountain High

I know it's not "cool" to love John Denver's music but I do. He loved the Colorado mountains like I do. I knew, as soon as I first visited the Colorado mountains, that they were my home. It didn't matter where I'd lived before or where I'd grown up - the Colorado mountains stirred my soul.

Today is the anniversary of John Denver's untimely death.

I made a video of riding my mountain bike through golden groves of aspen, and I have John Denver's song as the background. I'd like to share that with you today. I hope that he'd approve of this use of his song (his foundation gets all the ad revenue from this video).

You can watch it here or at Youtube.

  7. Beautiful country. I haven't spent enough time in Colorado to really get a feel for it. But your images are always so wonderful.

  8. A special tribute, and I am sure he would be thrilled if he could see your aspens. No wonder you so love living there. And whizzing by so fast, I had forgotten how quickly a bike goes along the trails.

  11. Love John Denver - I saw him in concert in 1979 or 1980 in Baton Rouge, LA. I always think of my Dad when I hear his song "I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado"; he loves Colorado and at 82 still goes yearly to hike and drive though all over the state...

  12. I agree with your sentiments. I liked how Shyla hesitated to see which way you were going on the fork! Our fall is over so I'm enjoying yours.

  14. What a great video. I loved tagging along on your bike ride and especially seeing Shyla running along with you. John Denver holds a special place in my heart too. I was already a fan when he came to WVU (West Virginia University) to open our new stadium in the fall of 1980 and sang "Almost Heaven" before the start of the game. That song has since become an unofficial anthem for the school and is often sung after sports events by the student body with the team.

  16. I probably already told you this, but I almost got to sleep in the same camp as he was in when he was in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. We had been on a search for a missing hunter. My dog found the guy (unfortunately he had passed on) we were so far back into the back country that they gave me the choice of hiking down to a camp about four miles away and staying with those people or hike 10 miles up a mountain and meet up with the other searchers. (THis was after they used a helicopter to fly the body out) (now I dont know why they wouldnt let me fly back with them.) It was getting dark and my heart told me to just hike to the horsecamp four miles down hill, but I decided to make it back to the command post. I got in about midnight. everyone was asleep, I crawled into my tent and was out like a light. The next morning they told me that it was John Denver in the camp that was four miles away and he was really looking forward to meeting me and my dog. Worst day of my life. I had such a crush on him and oh I have always loved his music. Even if he isnt popular. He had the soul of the earth in his being. Love the video, love watching her run, love the fall leaves, love the music. Great way to end my day.
