Flower Friday - An Explosion of Color

Just a short time ago, I had trouble finding flowers to photograph for Flower Friday.

Well, that just changed! Our world is exploding with color! I took this photo today.

The most obvious flowers are the glorious yellow ones in our meadows. In contrast, some of the gems grow on the forest floor and require diligent searching to find them. The Fairy Slipper is one of those.

Over the years, I've learned where the patches of these tiny orchids hide on our forest floor. Somehow, I can remember the spots very precisely.

During the brief time that they bloom, I tend to plan my mountain biking routes to go past at least one patch in a ride. A patch of Fairy Slippers looks like a shimmering magenta area on a carpet of pine needles.
Happy Flower Friday! Thanks to the Gang at LLB for hosting the blog hop!

  2. Lovely images - thank you for sharing! And I'm glad you are surrounded by flowers at last :) There are more and more buds and flowers here, seemingly every day. But few as brilliantly colored as your Calypso :)

  6. Such a beautiful flower! I love wild orchids, and this one is a true stunner.
Spring is a wonderful season with all the wildflowers blooming. This spring has been spectacular for us since the October fires really helped with opening up dormant seed pods that need fire. It's amazing how nature works.

  9. Your world is full of technicolor and we love it. We had no idea orchids grew in the Rockies they must be very hearty...Mom needs that species here in the house 'cause she kills all the other kinds.

I have heard about the Fairy Slippers,, Some of them grow here in the thick forests,, but only sometimes have I seen them... Oh my gosh,, thank you for showing me,. I now can see where they get their name,,, they truly do look like Fairy Slippers.
I love your zest and drive to go out into the world and see beauty.. Thank you,, for helping to make beauty for us to see,,, Thank you for your zest,,,, my zest seems to have departed for awhile,,, but I hope it comes back.

  19. Love the fairy slippers. Around here it was all snow, then brown, but just a few weeks after the snow the brown was gone and it is like a jungle outside. Nature is amazing!
