Sunrise and Sunset Sunday

The sunrise and sunset skies can be glorious here in the Rockies. We have a fabulous east-facing set of windows where I see the sunrise sky some mornings. This was the view from bed one morning recently.

Seeing the sky look like that usually means that it will be a cloudy day when we get outside. Despite the clouds, I was so glad that Shyla was back to playing by the second half of this week.
Just a note for anyone who wants to know the details of adapting to phenobarbital... After I declared that Shyla was "back", she regressed a bit yesterday. Her energy was low, and she was clumsy. Today, her energy was returning but she still had uncoordinated moments when her hind legs were out of control. The bottom line is that this is not a linear process where you get to steady state and then stay there forever. At least at the beginning, there are some fluctuations between great and not-so-good.

When times are bumpy, Mother Nature is wonderful for soothing my soul. On the same day as the sunrise outside our windows, we got to see a spectacular sunset from a nearby viewpoint. I loved this one.

The brilliant colors were fleeting, and the sun's orange colors rapidly faded to gray over top of our snowy mountains.
Happy Sunday!

  1. I just came from a blog that said "Collect moments, not things." you have this moment outside your bedroom and the fast fading of the sky and mountains, forever in your photos. I pray Shyla has more ups than downs with this new drug.

  2. How wonderful to wake up to such a view every day. When we lived in Alaska, I used to love pulling back the curtains to watch the northern lights at night. Your windows would have been perfect for that! I so hope that the good days will outnumber the ones that may be aren't. But I know that whatever the day brings for Shyla, you are together and that makes the day a great one!

  4. I don't have the big-sky-wide-open-spaces view that you have in CO, but here in my woodsy MA nook I track the increase (and decrease) in sunlight hours throughout the year by which window the sun appears in, especially at sunrise and sunset. One of the reasons my little house is always such a mess is because I have no closets or storage on exterior walls - I tore out every possible wall and put in more windows.
Here's hoping Shyla's equilibrium is soon restored!

  5. P.S. Full disclosure: the other (and main) reason my little house is always a mess is because I am useless at housekeeping. I don't understand why I can't seem to get it right, but at this point in my life, I'm not likely to improve much. Not something I'm proud of, to be honest. Oh well. All the more reason to go outside!

  11. With an Epi-dog, it's always two steps forward, one step back, when you're lucky. Here's hoping the forward progress nets over the other. Happy Sunday!

  14. Fabulous view! We're usually out for our early morning walk before the sun comes up, but sometimes we see a stunner! We thought that cloud looked like a giant crocodile moving over the mountain.

  15. I, too, love watching the sun rise from the big chair in our Great Room. We don't face east, but the glow from the rising sun paints the western peaks. I always give thanks for another CO morning! Have a good week (and Shyla, too).

  16. The beauty of nature is definitely soothing to the soul. We had beautiful sunsets at our previous home, but we never could see the sun rise. At our new home, we are surrounded by too many trees to see much of either one, and I do miss that.

I hope that gradually Shyla's bad spells get less and less, and that you can still see light at the end of the tunnel.
