K update

K had her surgery late this afternoon, and it just ended. The surgeon repaired a ruptured tendon in her paw that had caused one of her middle two toes to stick upward at an awkward angle.
The surgeon said that when he sewed the tendon back together, her toe returned to its normal position. The surgeon prevaricated about the ultimate outcome - understandably - because the tendon was not ruptured in the place where dogs normally break it. It was a unique injury and so he doesn't know how well she'll do with an active lifestyle in the long run. But, he's hopeful, and that's enough for me right now.

K will be in a splint for 6 weeks and will do only very minimal walks while the tendon heals in the splint. That will be a tough 6 weeks for both of us.

Today is K's birthday so before I took her to the surgeon, we did a sunrise short hike.
She stood in the slanting rays of nascent sunlight, looking strong and lean.
However, you can also see in the above photo that she wasn't weighting her left front limb much. I hope that her pain is relieved by this surgery.

A little later in the day, still before we'd departed for the surgeon's office, I saw a beautiful rainbow as I rode my bike. It seemed to follow me, as I rode from west to east. If there was a pot of gold, it was following me too! (Notice the soaring hawk in the first photo - he seemed to be following me too!)

My friend over at DVR wondered what a vision like this means. I hope that it means good things for all of us, especially K.

Thanks so much for all of your good wishes - they mean SO much to me. K will come home tomorrow. I'll be doting on her!
