It was a sun-drenched winter day here in Colorado. K and I hiked the trails in the morning cold air (5°F when we started).
On sunny days, I've been noting how much K squints and even closes her eyes. In aspen groves...
Atop Hug Hill...
I have to take about a zillion shots of one scene to capture her with her eyes open.
After looking at my many photos of K with her eyes closed this morning, I Googled the side effects of K's chemotherapy. Guess what! Photosensitivity (eyes more sensitive to bright light than usual, kind of like after the eye doctor dilates your pupils) is near the top of the list. So, it makes sense that she's squinting all the time. I'll have to re-double my efforts to get out on the trails early before the sun gets strong.
Today, we hiked to Hug Hill, and relaxed while gazing at the mountains in almost perfectly still air. K started to explore on the other side of the hill so I called her back into view and captured a photo of her as she crested the peak.
It was a super fun hike because no other humans had climbed the peak in a while. The snow was smooth and unbroken, except for animal tracks. However, the only animals who had ventured on our route were coyotes. They seem to be the only animals who haven't fled our snow-laden territory.
When we arrived home, K and I played a few silly games before I headed out for a snowbike ride. Can you balance a raspberry on your nose? K can!!!
mmmm raspberries :)

Hi KB, So glad that you got out early today before the snow comes back. It is so beautiful down here in the lowlands but I imagine it is prettier and colder up high with you. Love that K is enjoying her time outside too. Sending lots of love and healing thoughts K's way, and yours too.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I'm pretty sure that I can't balance a raspberry on my nose, but I wish I had one here to try with!
ReplyDeleteIs your flash coming on when you take pictures of K? You might want to try taking it off or getting a diffuser to see if that helps. I have one for my camera and it doesn't completely solve the problem indoors, but it might help outside. The one I have is pretty inexpensive, too. I think it was less than $20, but hubby picked it up, so I'm not 100% on that.
Hi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteNope, can't do that one, K. That's a hard one.
Did you stop and see the shout out y'all and Lilly got in my post today?
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Balance it on my nose? What's wrong with my tongue?
ReplyDeleteCould you put sunglasses on K? Just regular ones with a rubber band to hold them in place. Just wonderin'...
I'd rather balance a raspberry in my mouth if that's OK.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
Ha!ha! How beautiful you are K with a raspberry on your nose! Funny you noticed the squinting with K. I remember the post where you put your sunglasses on her!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of K on top of the world. That raspberry looks yummy. Hope you have a great week.
K is just beautiful and clearly loving life! I love looking at your beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteHow about some doggles for K. I have seen them around and they have a chin strap as well as one behind the head. She is beautiful as always.
ReplyDeleteCindy
We love that picture of K at the top of the hill. Of course the raspberry made us MOL!

We agree, you should get her a pair of dog sunglasses, she would look so cool in them.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely can't balance a raspberry on my nose, but I bet the pack would be willing to try - they love all kinds of berries.
We all LOVE raspberries!
ReplyDeleteMaybe that beautiful girl with celebrity staus needs a pair of Doggles?
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for sharing the story on how K miraculously still has her leg. That's so great that the radiation worked, since she obviously thrives on exploring the outdoors and going on hikes with you. Your attitude is right on for dealing with the curve ball that life has thrown at you. We all have to enjoy the NOW. When you think about it, that's all any of us have, even those of us who are not undergoing chemotherapy.
ReplyDeleteWith the photosensitivity, I've heard some dogs get used to the doggles pretty easily - might be worth a try!
I can't balance ANYTHING on my nose! That's interesting about the light sensitivity. My eyes are actually much more sensitive (squinting lots more) to light as I have aged.
ReplyDeleteThat second to last pictures gives my mom the shivers. K looks so close to the edge - my mom is afraid of heights.
Your pal, Pip
Hi KB, your photos are just glorious. K, you are one clever dog to balance that berry on your nose. We would never be able to do that. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteBOL...like that rasberry. Wonder if she will doggie goggles
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
Can't do that! This is going to sounds silly, but you could try Doggles for K. They look kinda stupid but they really help dogs with sensitive eyes, its the only thing that worked for my late lab
ReplyDeleteDachshund Nola's Mommy
OK I will meet your challenge with the raspberry. Going to send MOM out to get some so I can give it a go. Worst thing that could happen is I have raspberries for desert.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
Blessings,
Goose
I think I would try the Doggles for K, that would give her some real comfort out in the sun.
ReplyDeleteStella is the only one here who can balance anything on her nose.
She also doesn't like doing it!
Big storm on the way. . .are you sending it?
cheers and hugs,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Oh K- you are sooooo beautious standing among the stunning trees!
ReplyDeleteI don't have much of a nose, but I can balance one on my foot!
Good job K!!! Look at you- being such a star!
Yup, I think you need sunglasses too!
love
tweedles
You look so beautiful in the sun, but sorry that it makes you all squinty, you look cute like that though. I don't have much of a nose so balancing stuff is kind of not so good(giggles.
ReplyDeleteLoveys Sasha
Sending love to K...:-)
ReplyDeleteshe looks really tall in the pic of her paws up on that rock !
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute with the raspberry on your nose, K! Nope, I can't do that trick. Mom can't even get close to my nose to place food on it! I'm a loser from the start!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots,
Mitch
Awww bless her.
ReplyDeleteSending much love xx
K is amazing! For many reasons, not least the fact that she can balance raspberry on her nose!
ReplyDeleteOh K you are so beautifull ! I love all your pics but the last one is so fun !
ReplyDeleteKisses

K captivates the hearts of all - and perhaps her artistic talent of the rasberry - allows us the joy of nature - enhanced beautifully in all the photo's you have taken.
ReplyDeletePaws and hands across the pond.

ReplyDeleteMarilyn
K is just so gorgeous... what a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteLove the last picture - keep having fun!
ReplyDeleteDo you think K would tolerate a set of doggles? I remember they helped out my dear Cisco so much when she started to go blind.
Sam
Not a hope of balancing a raspberry on a nose here! LOL
ReplyDeleteLovely shots as always.
Could you get K some doggles to wear?
