Gratitude

Shyla and I made it out for sunrise this morning - one of my favorite things in the world.
The sun was relaxing and warm. The world was serene. No wind, no noise, except some birds singing.
It was a morning for gratitude. Gratitude for the sunshine and beauty, gratitude that I felt decent, gratitude that I have Shyla in my life, and gratitude that R was capable of going running with the Runner. I knew the two of them were enjoying the morning too.

Shyla seemed very in tune with me, watching me so carefully at times.
After spending some time enjoying the sunrise, we hiked up to Hug Hill and took a break there for some training. On Hug Hill, we worked on "leave it". I put a favorite ring toy in front of Shyla, and I made the game even tougher by putting a pile of treats in the middle of the ring. I told her to "leave it".

This was her reaction. Eyes slammed shut and head turned away to avoid all temptation...
Eventually, she did open her eyes and relax. But her strategy didn't change. She didn't even let her eyes stray toward the temptation until I released her. In the next photo, I had said the magic release word.
Fun and games on another beautiful day in the Rockies!

  2. I just happened to log-in at my computer & check up on my favorite blogs... and lo & behold, you had just posted a new entry for today, KB.

Shyla... you... not enough words to express how lucky she is to have you... and for you to have each other.

It's such a pleasure to be "in the company" of like-minded animal lovers. We all have different lives, live in different parts of the country, have different habits, have different outlooks on certain things... but one thing never changes & that's our love for our furry family members & all animals in general. We have the commonality of mutual respect for animals & their right too, to live on this planet with us... to share it with us.

Be well, my friends (both human & furry)!!
    XOXOXO

  5. What a perfect day!

Haha, Nola does the same thing where she absolutely will not look at the temptation. She doesn't close her eyes, but turns her head away and while keeping her eyes on me.

  8. Shyla, you make us giggle! I can't believe your mom tortures you like that. You are so well behaved! Me, not so much. I was just crying at the bottom of the stairs because my daddy took some icecream up there :0)

  9. KB, I did a double take when I logged on and saw that we had both chosen gratitude as our blogs' themes for today. For one confused moment, I thought you had shared the link to my post on FB. :-)

I'm so glad you had a good day of perfect weather, wonderful companionship, and that you felt good!

I love the bond you have with Shyla, and the "leave it" training exercise is too cute.

Some days I have to dig deep to find that feeling of gratitude. Your positive attitude is always such an inspiration.

  11. Beamer is the same. When I tell him to leave something alone, he refuses to look at it until I tell him it's ok!

  14. Shyla is a brilliant example of how to resist temptation. I would love to use at least one of the pictures in a post on my site. Does your Creative Commons license apply to pictures too? I would obviously link to this post and give you full credit.

I'm so glad the weather is fine and that you're feeling better.
