Every morning around sunrise at this time of year, a sun puddle warms up the dogs' bed. All three of them pile onto it. The big dogs would probably prefer to snooze in the sunlight but R will play if Hachi asks. He asked a lot this week.
When I watch closely, I am always struck by how ritualized their play is. They make fierce faces but are actually very gentle with each other.
I made a short video of the dogs playing. Our Black Dog plays very gentle games of bitey face with Hachi. Shyla still loves toy games most of all, and she sometimes convinces the boys to play with her. Check out the short video if you have time.
I always have time to watch dogs play, in real time or video time. it looks like Hachi might be bigger than either of his siblings by the time he is a year old.. I love how H kept looking at the camera when he and R were on the bed.. 3 way tug is wonderful.

Hilarious, as Shyla slid trying to get traction as she tugged so hard. Gentle, but determined as well, love them all together.
ReplyDeleteThey are very gentle. A friend once asked if my dogs were having a fight while witnessing a wild, noisy, gnashing-of-teeth play.

ReplyDeleteOur big Lucy and little Xena play like that too, but it's a high pitched noise coming out of Xena. It always makes me laugh. Dogs are good for our health.
