Long Desert Days

One of my favorite parts of the day in the desert is sunset. I love the warm tones of the light in the world of reddish rocks. At one campsite, we climbed up onto a mesa at sunset.

The Duo raced to me from one side of the mesa with a towering canyon wall behind them.

It melted my heart to see how Shyla watched her brother. This was on our first evening at that site, and I didn't yet realize how tough it was for R to see when he was facing the setting sun like he was in these photos.

R crested the top of the mesa in full flight with Shyla still watching him.
I saw a little later that R could see very little while facing the sun so I didn't let him run in that direction again. I think that Shyla would gladly sign up to be R's guide dog. But I wish that he would never need it.

The Runner and Hachi relaxed above us while we played in the sunset light. I cannot imagine a more beautiful sight.
I love our pack and long days in the desert.

  9. so beautiful in every way. the love comes right through their photographs.
I just don't understand why vets can't help his situation... like eye drops for humans when they have glaucoma! how could we not figure that out for our beloved dogs? surely they must be doing research on it!
hopefully they will have answers before R needs it the most. xoxo

  12. Your last photo says so much, trust, love and companionship, all in one. R, I am sure bright sunlight will dazzle his eye, would he wear a cap with a brim like I have seen in some of your photos? Or maybe that on;y works when he is still? Beautiful place for you all to be together.
