Nature Friday - Memories of mountain wildflowers

The wildflowers in the mountains were amazing beyond belief this summer. I had tons of fun photographing them but I haven't shown you very many. So, as winter is descending upon us, let's warm up with summer memories.

These are Paintbrush in a crimson color that I only see above 10,000' in the mountains. Paintbrush come in all sorts of colors but crimson is my favorite!
I did a very long solo ride from one point to another where the Runner picked me up in the LabMobile. I had trouble making forward progress due to the incredible flowers! My trail is to the left in the photo.

This was the hillside above my trail at about 12,000' feet elevation. Mother Nature is the best gardener.

Because the trail climbed such steep mountains, it had lots of hairpin curves and switchbacks, all surrounded by flowers and with craggy mountains above them.
I hope that you're feeling the warmth of summer from gazing at these flowers!

Thanks to the LLB Gang for hosting Nature Friday.

  7. KB thank goodness you have your beautiful photos to look back on spring. Maybe you should enlarge them to fit over your windows for the winter months.

  9. Beautiful, and to know they flowered so high, without seeds planted, but with nature giving a huge helping hand, all the more glorious.

  14. Your switchback picture in particular suddenly reminded me of the "Heidi" book I had when I was really little - it may have been a "Golden Book." Amazing the things the mind retains! Big mountains and meadows dotted with many flowers in various colors...all that's missing is a goatherd and the goats :)
