Dawn of a new day

Thanks to all of you for your words of support yesterday. Your understanding of how much I love K and how much this is hurting me makes a huge difference to me.

This morning, K and I seized the day by taking a short hike that started when the first light of dawn glimmered on the eastern horizon. After climbing up to a viewpoint, we were treated to the moon setting in a purple sky over the Continental Divide.
We wandered a high plateau as the eastern sky became brighter. Total silence reigned. This tranquil time was precious.
As we dawdled, waiting for the sun to rise, the clouds over the Divide lit up in a stupendous orange glow as the moon sunk toward them.
Then, the life and warmth-giving sun peeked over the eastern hills. The dawn of a new day...
K had been leashed until that point because I don't like her to run unfettered in the dusky darkness. I unclipped the leash, and she chose to gaze at the mountains. Her beautiful fur looked luxurious in the sunrise light.
Her freedom gave me the chance to see if she was still limping. It appeared that she was not, and she seemed to be full of energy and happiness. When her ears fly straight up as she gallops, I take it as a sign that she's romping with full enthusiasm!
I did notice, however, that she doesn't like to have her leg with the radiation burn in the snow, if she can avoid it. That probably explains the photo from yesterday when she propped that leg up and out of the snow. She kept doing the same thing today. Perhaps, the "limp"  that I saw yesterday was from her radiation burn rather than anything in her bones. I hope so!

Thanks again to all of you. I felt really sad and worried yesterday, and your comments lifted my spirits immensely! The power of the paw...

  1. Your mornings with K are so special, she will try and keep her leg away from the snow just like our raw skin after a burnor graze, but her running and with her ears spread way out is so joyous to see.The colours in nature are beautiful. Cheers from Jean.

  3. That 3rd photo was just stunning! MOM keeps talkin' about how she will be in your area in June. I wish I could go with her, but it's for work and she has to fly and she does not think I would like to fly cuz I could not sit next to her.
Did you know that Fridays are Sweet K Friday for me and MOM? Yep it is. Now ya all are a part of our prayers always but on Fridays it's extra special meditation time about miss K and you.
    Blessings,

  11. Oh, this is better news! It does make sense that K would favor her leg to protect raw skin from the snow. Paws crossed that that solves the limp question.

    And look at her fly!!

  12. OK, and this makes it alright for me to say again, wrap that leg for warmth and comfort seeing if it makes a difference to K. I know that it would to me.

I'm so happy that today is better.

    Cheers,

    Jo, Stella and Zkhat

  14. The only word My Vickie could think of when we read todays post was "Stunning" All around Beautiful. Every Single Photo filled us with deep emotions.

My Vickie thinks you two are the most brave critters in the world. Not only for how you are going through what is happening to you but also because you go out into the wilderness at all hours with just hte two of you.

With all the years she has had in SAR, she is still afraid of the dark. Look at all the beautiful sights she is missing.

At least we can look at your photos and experience time in that way.

  15. Your photos are always incredible, but every once in awhile there's one that jumps out at me that just seems so special... today I agree with Goose. That 3rd photo is just so SO awesome. Glad you both enjoyed your hike and thanks for always sharing with the rest of us!

  16. That silhouette of K is just breathtaking! You make me wish I got out of bed every morning and had time to track a sunrise down, although I am pretty sure ours are not nearly as stunning as yours. K would be beautiful no matter what, but you make her even more so when you turn your eye for beauty on her! Having a roller coaster of emotions just means that you're human with a big heart. :)

  18. Good observation about the leg being sensitive to the cold and wet of the snow. Hope that's it, because her radiation burn will heal. Can't visualize what you could put on her leg to protect it that wouldn't cause its own problem when it rubbed on her skin. Glad today was better than yesterday.

  20. We are so sorry we missed yesterday's post. But you and K are always in our thoughts and prayers. We hope her burn area gets better and less painful for K. She sure is a trooper the way she can get out there and face the day with such enthusiasm.

Hope your weekend is a good one.

  21. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful morning with us. Your right, K's radiation burned spot on her leg is probably more sensitive to the cold wet snow. I laughed at her ears in that last pic, they almost look as long as Fred's! What a fun picture. And guess what? We woke up to a ton of snow this morning! Yay!!

  31. Hi again! THe rock has a story. In 1620 there lived 2 sisters who didn´t get along. One of the sisters lays at the cementary but the other sister refused. So she is in the park of Trollebo. Every Thursday she goes as a ghost to this rock and cries together with her sister and regret their lives.
This rock is always wet. No natural water flows there and you can taste some salt in it...believe or not....thats the story.
I will write more of it in coming posts.
