Let it snow!

From yesterday... the golden fringe on K is caused by the sun rays hitting her from behind. Look at the patches of dry ground!
To today... No sun but several feet of snow and snow flakes rocketing out of the sky.
This morning, K and I headed out into a bottomless world of snow. It was difficult to find the trails in our forest because the world looked so alien. After a big snow like this, whatever path is chosen by the first person in the forest will be followed by everyone for a month (because it's such hard work to break a new trail). Since K and I were the first out there, we chose the route!

Sometimes K porpoised through the powder like a puppy. I held my breath when she plunged into the snow but she was fine, aside from a small abrasion near her radiation burn.
At other times, she followed in the trail that I'd broken.
I love the silence during a snowstorm. The air was still and flakes floated out of the sky. Every sound was muffled, and the birds had fallen silent. It felt as if we lived in the most remote part of the world.
I didn't take K too far because it was such hard work to plow through the snow, and I didn't want to push her too hard. After our hike, I played on my snowbike for a little while. Over the past week, I've been able to travel far and wide on my snowbike because the snow was so packed down.
Today, I didn't make it far from home. This is our driveway. Look at the wall of snow by its side.
After I floundered in the deep snow on my snow bike for a while, it was time to head inside and get toasty by the fire. I chuckled as I approached the house. The days of lounging on that deck seem like a very distant memory.
Let it snow! It's supposed to keep falling all night long.

  2. The light in the first picture is amazing. And what a snowstorm you had. The pictures remind me of the huge, deep, forests in Sweden where I grew up. I'm glad K is doing so well. Every day that is a good day really counts for something when you have cancer.

  3. K plowing through the heart warmed our hearts. What great fun. We love being the first to plow a new trail, nothing like it.

  5. Wow!!! And to think my person was there just a short 10 days ago! Glad it didn't snow that much then! She would have never gotten home!

I love all of your pics, but the one of K blazing through all of the snow is great! K looks like she is having so much FUN!

As far as weather - amazing what a difference a day can make in Colorado!

My person sez: I know what you mean - when a big storm like this one hits, it does seem like you are the only people (and furs) in the world! I think that is what I miss most about Colorado. I can remember feeling like that even in the city with all of the people around! That was what was really great! And a bit eerie at the same time!

    Bark at ya later!

  6. It thrills me so to see K romping and enjoying the snow. And to see her tender moments picking up your hat. I hope the soreness from your procedure disappears soon.

  10. Mom Beaglebratz here- we here in NE Kansas have been hearing about all the snow out there and that it was moving into western Kansas. We mite get some flurries or no more than an inch tomorrow - today has been a lot of rain - when it rains I have to force Shiloh'n Shasta out but they are better with snow. I love that first picture of K plowing through the snow - actually I love them all and wish we were all there.

  13. We heard you got hammered over there! What a blast! There is nothing like a big snowstorm and the silence that surrounds it. I love those moments, especially in the evenings.

I've got to ask: you have the shown the bottom of your bear proof bird feeder...how tall is it? And how in the world do you fill it??

Enjoy the fluff. Love that shot of K plowing through the snow!!

  16. K plowing through the snow is a metaphor for what you are facing. Like her, porpoise and leap and trudge and walk...just keep moving forward! The silence of snowstorms is one of momma's favorite-est songs.

  17. Isn't it nice you're getting the weather you love and we're not :) It is glorious to see K so full of joy as she barrels through the snow. And we're also curious about the bird feeder, now that 24 Paws of Love have raised the question.

  18. What beautiful pictures with lots of snow. We´ve got a lot too, about 40 cm since yesterday morning. Good that K has long legs, our dachshunds dieappears in the snow only the tails is to see.
We have very cold in the north of Sweden, the highest temperatur this season is reached, -43 C.
    Have a nice day.

  22. The Herd is jealous. A normal winter for us is 80-100 inches and we are sitting at 6 total for the year.

  24. The house does look very welcoming, and K as gorgeous as ever!

We're expecting snow here too but it's unlikely to be anything like yours...

  25. Your snow is really beautiful! We can't seem to get flakes to stay here for anything (spoken as it rains outside). I love how snow seems to bring out the puppy in a dog, too. K looks thrilled with it!

I'd love hiking through it, but I wouldn't get too far on a bike! lol

  26. The snow makes everything so beautiful, really...Your house,the trees,the trail,porpoising K,snowflakes on fur...I could go on.

  27. I love a good snow storm too, as long as I'm home to enjoy it and not driving in rush hour traffic. K's obviously having a great time in it. It must be nice to get to choose the path; I think that might be some kind of a metaphor for how we should live our lives. :)
PS Maybe I should try snow biking, it might not hurt as much to fall off in all that snow.

  28. What beautiful snow pics and of course of K. I love watching labs swim in deep snow, like dolphin swimming! Your home is just georgous, KB. That deck looks so inviting, even in the deep snow.

  29. Gorgeous pics! Wow, the snow pics are fabulous...we have none! You are so right, there is something so special, almost sacred about being out in the quietness of snow...I love that feeling. I miss it. Maybe we'll get some yet; it is only February!

  33. You guys really got covered up!! It looks like a winter wonderland though. I wish we would get at least one snow here this winter. I love the peaceful, quiet during a snowfall, and your description reminded me how nice that is. Stay warm out there!

  34. Wow! What a change in the world from Thursday morning to Thursday night. A white world. Us, too. Lovin' every minute of it! I'm so impressed you got even a little bit on your bike! We chicked out of even driving and just walked in it. :)

  35. The silence after a snowfall is one of the best "sounds" ever, and one that I could use a good dose of right now. Where we live is certainly not city life, but it still does not offer the peace and solitude that you have.

I love those meaty bike tires!!! ;0-)
