Mustering Courage

I've had a long day, and I'm still under strict orders to rest so I'll keep this brief. Some of you know about Shyla's sensitivity that spills over into fearfulness when life becomes too much. Shyla's fears have made me view my own fears differently.
I have to admit that the many migraines that I had back-to-back in the past couple of weeks scared me deeply. I've rarely had anything medical that could stop me in my tracks in an instant like a migraine can. I've also never experienced my brain lying to me, like it does when I have an "ocular migraine" (also known as an "aura"). The auras are so intense for me, yet I know that all those zig-zagging lights and other apparitions are being created by my brain and don't exist. Having a lying brain scares me a lot.

I rested like a good patient for all of last week but today, there was no time for rests or naps. And, that terrified me. If I could do something to avoid another migraine for the rest of my life, I'd do it.

One thing that I had to do today was take Shyla to the vet. The problem was that our vet has moved to a new location, a place where Shyla has never been. So, not only was I worried about my own health but I knew that Shyla might be scared about the new vet hospital.
I thought about my fear of what the day held, and I decided to use Shyla as my inspiration. In recent months, I've seen Shyla muster the courage to face things that would have caused her to meltdown in fear a year ago. I believe that Shyla has an inspirational level of courage, and so I tried to live up to her level of courage today. Lots of deep breaths, stay relaxed, and deal with what life brings...
We both did it today. Shyla stayed happy and upbeat at the new vet hospital. And, so far, I haven't had a migraine despite a busy day. Now, I'm signing off so that it stays that way!

  3. Glad you had a good day, and hope your migraines stay away! Migraines are horrifying. I get them occasionally (every couple of months?), usually if I go on or off caffeine or spend all day in the sun. They're so scary, debilitating and horrible.

  13. Pick a migraine variation and I have probably had it. I will admit the lightning flash oculars are disturbing at first(only because you worry about detached retinas when they first start). If they don't make you sick to your stomach, dizzy, or accompany a splitting headache ocular migraines can actually be turned into a form of entertainment. Try to think of them as your own personal fireworks show. And I hope you break the chain soon. Have you tried fasting for a couple days and then adding foods back in one at a time? That will often "reboot" my brain and break a chain.

  16. You give each other courage & help each other to see things as they are... not as they might be. For whatever shortcomings Shyla has, you "have her back"... and she yours!!

    A match made in heaven!

Still praying for you, KB, and *knowing* that there's NOTHING that might come your way that you, your husband & the furry members of your family wouldn't be able to handle together!!

    NOTHING!!!!
