Serene Sunday

I spent last evening with family. While the boys launched rockets from a snow-covered part of the meadow, I saw a beautiful sunset "magic hour" unfold to our east.
My migraine went wild last night, and I lay there thinking about how to best approach this new hurdle in life. I think that perhaps, while I keep trying to get answers from doctors, I should start to accept them as a part of my life.
I am taking a page from my history with this approach. When I first had terrible spine pain, I obsessed over it, worrying incessantly about the pain. It wasn't until I accepted that the pain was going to be part of my life that I started to heal emotionally and find happiness again.
Perhaps that lesson from my past would help me now - help me to stand strong and vibrant, even though these evil things seem to have become a regular part of my life.
There's always a chance that they will dissipate or that a doctor will find a cure. One of you kindly sent me a link to a forum where many people reported going through an extremely tough time with migraines after being under general anaesthesia. I've pursued it further, and my reading suggests that it happens more often than I knew. Moreover, most people emerge from the fog with time.
Springtime is around the corner - a time for new beginnings. On my outdoor bike ride today, I saw two willows that had begun to grow catkins.
I also saw bluebirds and red-winged blackbirds, avian species that only live here in the spring and summer! My spirits were buoyed by the thought of the new life that spring will bring.

  1. i need to send more of my red-winged pals to you. they're eating a lot of seed these couple of weeks. :)

i hope your migraines will alleviate after a while if they were a biproduct of the anesthetic. how awful.

  6. Yes, I know that in my heart & soul too, KB... that, given time, everything remedies itself. As the old saying goes: leave a cold alone & it goes away in a week---treat a cold with medicine & it goes away in 7 days. :)

I had an arthroscopy on this same left knee 16 years, almost to the day, before I had the 2nd scope on it. The first time around my dr (a different one) didn't prescribe anti-inflamatories or physical therapy. The knee stayed twice the size as the other one for 4 months, with much pain & "weird feelings" in the joint... and then the swelling went down & the knee was fine. Now I'm taking Rx-strength Aleve & doing physical therapy & am at the 9-weeks post-op point... and there's a bit of difference but not much. I'm guessing at around 16-weeks post-op my knee will start to feel better once again, same as last time.

It's just the putting up with the recovery time that is hard to bear... and dealing with your migraines until they decide to go away has to be a very heavy cross to bear. I used to get migraines years ago & they're hard to describe if you've never had one. The pain is like nothing else. To put up with that on a daily basis would be difficult to imagine. But you are doing it with the positivity of a saint, my dear, and I know the beautiful soulful eyes of your furry family members helps you to do just that.

I am praying for you, KB, and my thoughts turn to you often during the day. I hope that brings you at least a little comfort.

  10. It sounds like you are facing this challenge in a positive, courageous way. I'm sure sunsets like the one you photographed provide nourishment to the spirit. I was thinking of you and your wildlife camera when I photographed a bear at my house the other day. Wrote about it today, check it out if you get a chance. :)

  11. I'm so sorry you are struggling so with migraines and I hope that your resolve to not let them interfere will help overcome them. Look at the face on Shayla and take solace there.

  12. Pussy willow buds ( as we call them down here), beautiful skies, Shyla and R, and our huge international family, will be with you as the migraines continue. Ditto to all the other caring words above, and you are in my heart, as I hope for your troubles to dissipate so soon. Hugs, Jean.

  15. I'm terribly sorry you are having so many migraines and that you have to accept them as part of your life for now. That is not an easy thing to do. I can not begin to relate with that kind of pain, but I know how hard it is to accept a part of ourselves that seems out of order. When I come to this understanding, it diminishes the problem in half, but I know it isn't easy especially when you have no answers.

Regardless, I hope you find some peace with it. I will be thinking and praying for you.

  17. Perhaps the social interaction affected you a bit last night :( I still have all the hope in the world that with quiet and rest and as your body heals your migraines will dissipate. All good thoughts coming your way from me and my 3-pack :)

  18. I surely hope your migraines are just anesthesia based and as your body clears the toxins, they will dissipate.

As you start to see signs of spring, we got hit with a half a foot of snow last night! LOL! Most winters we receive nothing but a dusting or two. Such a white winter we have had!

  19. I felt incredibly better when I saw a few signs of Spring last week, too. I have my fingers crossed that things will get better for you soon!

  25. Catkins! I see Shyla is also looking toward spring. More snow due her tonight - we'll ski tomorrow. I cannot imagine your migraine suffering. I do wonder if it has been caused by the anesthesia?

  26. I sincerely hope the migraines will Go Away as you continue to heal. Maybe if you visualize getting rid of something that is a temporary annoyance...kind of like shaking off a little red boot? :)
    Take it easy, KB.
