We started trying to get out earlier in the morning, as it's getting uncomfortably warm for Shyla later in the morning. We rode in a couple of meadows, and the coyotes left us alone. I suspect that they've become used to seeing us in the mornings. In one meadow. we saw these magenta "Shooting Stars". I almost lay on the ground to take this photo with Shyla sitting right behind me watching for predators.
Shyla seemed happy this week, except for one night. She awakened us around midnight, and she could not settle down. She insistently licked our faces repeatedly. We tried taking her out - but that wasn't the issue. We began to think that she was having something like an anxiety attack. We gave her a short-acting anti-anxiety med prescribed for her by our behavioral vet - and I hugged her close until she relaxed and fell asleep. Has anyone else ever thought that their dog might be having a panic attack?
She was fine the next morning, galloping through the meadow and our new flowers!
Happy Shyla Saturday!
Was there an earthquake? One night recently both cats leapt about, ran to our window then raced to the cat door that we close at night. They did this from 11.30 to 2 a.m.!!! Ws there another animal close by and she picked up the vibrations, or did it come near a window? We think we either had a slight quake or a small black c at had come closer. Love your meadow flowers, we have WINTER in a big way. lots of snow down south, and should be some about 2 hours from us falling overnight.

ReplyDeleteAs Nancy points out, there is likely something that woke Shyla - maybe even a dream - and she was just checking on you. Licking releases pleasurable endorphins which gives dogs a feeling of comfort and pleasure — like the feeling people get when they are biting their nails — it relieves stress. But mostly it is just a sign of affection. If it was just a one-off, I'd really not fret about it. Those shots show a very happy and active Shyla!!! YAM xx
Whatever scared her, we're glad so was comforted and fell asleep in your arms♥ The shooting star is so pretty!
ReplyDeletePoor girl, don't you just wish they could talk? The shooting star flower is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy dogs anxiety only seems to happen with a trigger. Maybe poor Shula heard something or dreamt something.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see Shyla looking so happy in her meadows. That Shooting Stars picture is beautiful and it's good to know Shyla has your back. We're sure Shyla must have sensed something to make her wake up like that but you were able to calm her and get back to sleep so all is well.
ReplyDeleteIt IS getting too hot. Ugh-not ready for the heat. Those Shooting Stars are absolutely gorgeous! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletePoor sweetie, maybe Tiny was back for a visit and that made her nervous.
ReplyDeleteShyla my precious little gorgeous chocolate labrafriend you look outstanding...out galloping in the field of posies.

Yes, there have been times we have not been able to figure out what was making Luke nervous. I don't think it ever occurred to me that maybe dogs could have unprovoked anxiety attacks too. :(

Your pictures of Shyla running through the fields always put a big smile on my face and joy in my heart.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is the panic attack was from something she could smell that you could not.
