Pack Play!

We've been inviting lots of friends over to meet Hachi. He is in the midst of the most important "socialization period", and he is mildly suspicious of people who he doesn't know. So, he is meeting lots of nice people who come visit him.

One of those nice people brought him a gift - a squeaky walrus that is perfect for playing tug. That toy brought on some wonderful play among our trio of dogs. It started with Shyla and Hachi, who have recently started playing tug together a couple of times each day. Shyla has figured out that she needs to be gentle to keep Hachi playing with her.

Very soon thereafter, R joined in the game! I was SO happy to see that.

Both big dogs were tugging much more softly than they would have with just each other. Our wide-eyed puppy was so happy!

100 pounds of grown-up dog versus 13 pounds of puppy!

Even when Hachi let go of the toy, they didn't run away with it. They waited for him to grab it again so that the game could continue.

I think that we have the start of a wonderful pack relationship!!!

Many thanks to all of our friends who have been dropping by to help Hachi grow up into a friendly good citizen.

  8. We agree with most of the other comments that those pictures are too cute for words. Hachi looks like he is getting a lot of exercise holding on to those two big dogs with his toy.

    1. Their parental instincts kick in. Right now they are like Hachi adopted parents until he hit puberty.
