Thankful for Puppy Hachi

Hachi is making all of us have more fun. He's a puppy, and he loves to play. He's brought so much laughter to our home! We are thankful.

He also loves to cuddle. I have taken more naps since he arrived than in the past few years combined. He settles into my lap and falls asleep. He's so sweet and loving that I fall asleep too.

He loves contact with us or with dogs. He also loves giving kisses. Shyla was the recipient of this one.

The other night he wedged himself next to Shyla, and he fell asleep in a crazy position.

I thought that you might enjoy another play/training video. In this one, I show more playing and I'm not strictly "shaping" his behavior with a clicker. Rather, I'm having him follow my hand in a "moving hand touch" to lead him through spins and weaves around my legs.

Thanks to Brian for hosting the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

  3. He is so cute!!!! I love those snuggle pictures--nap time is about the only time Rye is still, so we try to make naps a regular part of our day, too.

  9. I just love to watch your training videos, so informative. Can I ask what treats you use? And how do you reconcile that amount of food with his daily diet?

    1. Most of his treats are his kibble. We measure out how much kibble he's supposed to get in a day each morning. Then, we take his treats for training from his daily ration. Some days, he gets very little kibble from a bowl. We do add extras when we need "high value treats" - cheese cubes or real turkey are two things that we use for that. At this stage in his life, the extra calories of cheese or turkey aren't a big deal. He's on the lean end of the spectrum.

I'm really glad that you enjoy the videos!

    2. Thanks! The doggos always look SO interested in their rewards, that I just had to wonder what you were giving them!

  12. I was just wondering what those little treats are that you are giving Hachi. Are they strictly for training? I know you gave him cheese the other day for a reward, but these little things look interesting. I don't own a dog, but my grand-dog is visiting (again) for the last month!

    1. Those little treats are actually his kibble. He doesn't need very "high value treats" for routine training. When we are training something that we need him to be very motivated about, we use cheese cubes or fresh turkey. Enjoy your grand-dog!

  14. What joy and love he is bringing to your lives! He is so smart, and I bet all the work you do with him keeps him from getting into a lot of mischief. In the video, he looks like he's getting so big! ♥
