Thankful Thursday: Gratitude for Everyone in our Pack

On this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful that we have puppy hilariousness in our pack again. I am thankful for our good-hearted Big Dogs who are so patient with our puppy. And, I am thankful that Hachi sleeps sometimes!

I tried to get photos of the trio together the other day.
That was pretty good even though Shyla wasn't looking at me and R was closing his eyes. The little guy was staying and looking at me. That's all that I can ask of a little puppy.

In the next instant, I could tell that Hachi was getting ready to break. That stare into the distance might have been my hint.

Then it happened. The little one was leaping rather than sitting.

Shyla has been an incredible big sister to him, tolerating his silly behavior and even playing with him. I don't have photos of them playing but you can see how tolerant she's being in this photo. And she's holding her sit-stay!

He landed between the big dogs, and Shyla did not look amused. However, neither of the big dogs moved.

I think that we are all thankful at the end of the day when Puppy Hachi crashes. He usually gets insanely energetic in the evening, sprinting in circles around the house while leaping onto big dogs. Then, just as fast as he became insane, he crashes. Look at his nose squished into the dog bed as if he literally crashed while running.
As much as we love him, it is a relief to have some time when we are not closely supervising him. Do you see the big bell below his chin in the photo above? He wears that so that we can hear where he is at all times. It's incredible how fast he can get into trouble!

Here's a crash from another evening.

While I was photographing him, he must have heard the shutter. He woke up and lifted his head with his eyes closed.

Soon, his head fell to the bed again.
He's been sleeping quietly at night and needs just one bathroom outing per night. He's a good puppy.

For today, I am thankful for Hachi's silliness, Shyla's and R's patience, and for his nightly crash!

  1. standing ovation for todays story time post... the big dogs are so patient with Hachi and it makes me smile to see him explode between them and they just wait it out...to tired to open his eyes, but he tried. what you describe as night time is what Big does when we come home from the YMCA each morning, his 65 pounds explodes into racing and jumping and throwing his bone in the air. that is the only time he acts like a puppy

  3. Momma used to say "a sleeping puppy is a good puppy." I have no idea what she means. I'm SO much more interesting when I'm awake!

  6. You are such good furkids, R and Shyla. I remember how hard it can be to have a youngster under foot. That is a serious bell, Hachi!

  9. Young, adaptable, able to soak up all the learning, and the energy!!! The others are so loving and patient with Hachi, soon the puppy days will be over, and he will be a big boy too with R, and have Shyla there as a loving sister.

  10. not sure if I could sit/stay as calmly as Shyla if my upper lip was grabbed by tiny needle-like puppy teeth!

  11. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and all the harmony in your pack is 100% yours and runners TLC. You trained the Labraduo well. Shyla looks as if she is saying 'good grief Pup chill'!! R is thinking if I ignore it maybe it will nap.
And Hachi seems to think Shyla is hiding something yummy her mouth.

  14. Hachi is such a cutie pie. He sure has figured out how to work the camera (even if just for a few seconds-puppy distraction mode notwithstanding). And those sleeping poses are too adorable.

  17. Puppies are so sweet, and so much work! But worth it, they are such a joy.

  18. OH, I just love it! He is such a good puppy and his siblings are so patient with him. I think we forget, when it's been a while, how energetic puppies are. But I do remember that Luke was a great one, very easily housebroken. We did use a crate which helped too though. Heck, Luke (at 5 years old) still has those bursts of energy in the evening and drives me nuts sometimes! But once he stops, he's DONE. LOL

  19. That nose!
My feed store has those bells in a box on the counter, and I think if I put one on Piper she would be easier to trace when off-lead in the woods. Her significant loss of hearing gives her a perfect excuse not to come when I call her now, and there have been a couple of times when I had to wait so long for her to come back to me that I got really worried that she might have looped around and gone to the road. But when I ring the bells to choose the pitch, I can't help wondering if Piper WOULD be able to hear that, so close to her ears, and if it would annoy her...so I end up not buying the bell after all. Now that I've written this out, I realize I should just buy a bell and try it!
